Report Confirms Our People Need to Have a Say

Congress Co-Chairs, Les Malezer and Jody Broun today responded to the Department of Finance Strategic Review of Indigenous Expenditure.

They said the document confirms two important findings: firstly that our peoples must be involved in decision making and implementation of services for those services to be effective and secondly, that a new approach is needed built on flexibility and working in equal partnerships with communities.

The Co-Chairs also said Congress must play a fundamental role in any new approach to decision making about services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Congress will now engage with members, Ministers and parliamentarians on a more detailed response to the issues raised in this report.

The Department of Finance has now published the full report reviewing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander expenditure.
